All day training with the Labs
Every morning starts with potty training. The labs are lead from their dens to the yards, and only after they have done their business are they are let back into the kitchen where they can roam around while we have our morning coffee and listen to the news. Being that this will be their favorite room for many years to come, we teach them the good behaviors in the kitchen.
Breakfast time quickly approaching, they are all crated while their food is prepared; this clams them down before eating, and teaches them to be patient. We feed them in their crate so that the crate a is good place to be. We monitor that each individual lab has a healthy appetite. We feed them a Raw Diet from HPPI, it promotes a healthy coat, a compact odorless stool, reduces allergies, and more.
After a short digestive period, they are lead back into the yards for exercise and more potty training. During this time puppies learn to be dogs by socializing with the adult labs.
Lunch time for the puppies begins with more crate training followed by a short nap. Reinforcing a positive experience in the crate teaches them the safety and peacefulness of their den.
Ready to go, they are lead back to the yards for more potty training and exercise. Now ready for the highlight of the day, they patiently wait for visits. A fun and playful socialization session with strangers and the neighborhood children teach the labs to be confident and happy while handled by new people.
Next on their schedule is the Boarding kennel. Provided they are old enough, we take them all to our boarding facility at Stonehedge Kennel, for more socialization where they learn to be around strange dogs. We bathe and groom the labs that may be dirty from the morning, and tend to any other needs.
Having had a good time at the kennel they are taken for their walk into through the woods. We bring the entire pack (griffons, whippets, and greyhounds) on this walk. This teaches the labs to socialize with the larger and smaller breeds of our pack, and reinforces our potty training before going back into the house to eat.
Our morning feeding routine is repeated for the evening feeding, as well as more potty training. Exhausted from our daily activities, it’s finally time to go to different parts of the house. During this time they are closely supervised and taut what not to touch.
Before bedtime, they are lead out into the yards for their final duties. While returning them into the crate for the night we again make sure it is a positive experience by giving them a goodie. They are usually all asleep before we even shut off the lights.
Using crate training and a consistent routine at an early age throughout the day, our labs learn to be confident, playful, and content in almost any environment.
